The team will be holding two rounds of selection, the first a written test and the second, a quick fire question round. The dates for the first round are:

  • Tuesday 27 October at 13:00 in the Students’ Union building
  • Wednesday 28 October at 13:00 and 14:00 in the Students’ Union building
  • Thursday 29 October at 17:30 in the Students’ Union building
  • Friday 30 October at 13:00 at Southampton General Hospital

All essential information will be posted on the Facebook group. If you’d like to try-out but cannot make the above times, please contact Tricia via the group.

This year’s team are aiming to improve the University’s previous results, after having lost their first round match to St. Catharine’s College, Cambridge. They were, however, amongst the quiz show’s ‘highest scoring losers’, having scored a commendable 135.

The University’s team two years ago progressed to the quarter finals – a feat which this year’s team hopes to better.

Tricia Goggin, the captain of the 2015 team is a second year PhD student, studying Biomedical Engineering. 130 universities applied for the original team, and only 28 were chosen for the series.

Goggin, speaking of this year’s try-outs, commented,

“I’d encourage students from all subjects and levels to try-out. A good team needs a balance of academic disciplines as well as some esoteric knowledge from all members.”
